After 465 days, Tiger Woods is finally returning to competitive golf. Even though it’s just his own Hero World Challenge with only 18 players and no cut, there hasn’t been this kind of excitement in golf since, well, when Woods last played.
Say what you want about Rory, Spieth and D.J. and the Ryder Cup, but Woods transcends the game. He’s Michael Jordan. No one — and I mean no one — before or since brought the kind of excitement, shot-making and drama to the sport.
He blew up the template, and brought unparalleled athleticism and drive to the game. Now everybody is hitting 350-yard drives. Besides John Daly, only Woods was back then, and with a steel-shafted drive and balata ball.
